04/06/2015 — According to El Cajon Police Lt. R. Soulard, at approximately 9:43pm on April 4th, 2015, El Cajon Police Officers and Paramedics responded to reports that a solo vehicle had struck a pole at 1163 Broadway in El Cajon.
Upon arrival, police found that a silver 2010 Hyundai Accent 4 door had collided with a telephone pole, causing major damage to the vehicle. The vehicle had been driven by a mother, with her three children as passengers.
Based on witness statements and evidence at the scene, the preliminary investigation indicates that the Hyundai was traveling East on Broadway when it left the roadway, striking the South curb-line and colliding with the power pole before coming to rest. The driver may have fallen asleep behind the wheel before the collision occurred.
All three children, ages 10, 3, and 2 years, sustained significant injuries and were immediately transported to Children’s Hospital. The driver sustained complaints of pain and was transported to Sharp Hospital for treatment. Shortly after arriving at Children’s hospital, the 3 year-old passenger was pronounced deceased as result of her injuries. The other two children were admitted with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
The driver, Brandy Teague (10-27-83) of San Diego was later arrested and booked into Las Colinas Women’s Detention Facility on several charges, including Gross Vehicular Manslaughter, Felony Child Endangerment, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Driving While Under the Influence of Drugs. Teague was also cited for driving on a suspended license.
